Hamptworth Country Fayre and Companion Show
Sunday 17th August 2008

Sunday 17th August will see the fourth year of the Hamptworth Country Fayre and Companion Show. Growing each successive year, the Fayre has become an important date in the calendar for lovers of everything ‘country’. Held in the grounds of Hamptworth Lodge, this year will see the return of all the family favourites with some very special notable extras.

Man with ferret New for 2008 – The Pike and Shot Tour and Event Company www.pikeandshot.com will be producing an entire living history encampment. A large tented area portraying all areas of life in the 17th century. With costumed interpreters interacting with all our visitors, the encampment will demonstrate arms and armour of the period, medical practice,
diet and cooking and evolving military ideas including the reasons why the Longbow fell from grace in favour of the musket. In addition, there will be two half hour main arena performances with live gun firing and demonstrations of getting dressed /undressed into and out of a suit of armour. This new addition to the show will provide huge entertainment for all ages.

Of course, the show will incorporate the hugely popular clay pigeon shooting area where everyone is welcome to take part. Young or old, experienced shot or novice, qualified instructors will be on hand to advise and ensure that safety is always paramount. For those wishing something less noisy, the show also offers everyone the chance to partake in some archery on the original English Archery lawn adjacent to the main house.

All of the favourites return including the parading of The New Forest Hounds and Beagles, Ferret Racing, Terrier Racing, Falconry, Gundog displays, Keepers Corner and of course the Companion Dog Show with fun classes and the ever popular waggiest tale competition. There will be a vast array of stands and stalls selling a variety of wears and the refreshment area will contain a licenced bar.
