Hamptworth Gundogs

The Hamptworth Gundogs training team bring together over 50 years combined experience in the training, trialling, testing and field working of gundogs. Specialising in retrievers and spaniels, the team can also train HPR’s and other breeds for shooting, stalking and hawking.

A range of training opportunities and facilities have been designed to suit the needs of any owner, from individual and group lessons right through to residential training and finally field experience on the estate driven and walked up days.

Individual Lessons

One to one lessons are ideal for individuals who have a specific problem with their dog or would like a more personal service. A training programme can be designed to take your dog through basic training and then onto handling and steadiness amongst live game. At the end of the training programme, Hamptworth offers you the opportunity to shoot over your trained gundog on the estate.

Available all year round – Cost £25.00 per hour ( additional charges for shooting will apply)

Group Training

Group training lessons will commence in the spring of 2008.The sessions will be held on a weekday evening and on Sunday mornings. The lessons will progress from basic training and steadiness through to handling, water work and steadiness amongst live game, using all of the estate facilities.

Cost £20.00 per dog for 2 hour training sessions

Walk Up Training Days

This has been designed for people whose dogs are ready to be shot over. The first few outings on the field are crucial to a young dogs development. Months of training can be ruined in a matter of hours if your dog is not introduced to the shooting field in a controlled manner.

The day will involve you working your dog amongst live game under instruction. The emphasis at all times will be on steadiness and hunting within range. Game will only be shot which your dog has flushed and has remained 100% steady on. Various scenarios can be set up and problems ironed out during the day in a relaxed friendly atmosphere. The day is an ideal way to progress your dogs training under battle conditions.

Available during the season – Cost £140.00 per day



Test Days

Want to get ahead in tests ? Come and use our ground for training. Test courses have been set up to simulate every situation you will get in a working test from water work to bolting rabbits and jumps etc. The course can be used at any time by individuals, groups or clubs. Judges can be provided if needed.

Available all year round - Cost – Individuals £30.00 per hour. Groups and clubs by arrangement

Rabbit Pen

The rabbit pen is an ideal facility to teach your dog to hunt within range and to become steady amongst live game in a controlled environment. The pen is available to be hired on an individual and group basis.

Available all year round - Cost – Individuals £25.00 per hour. Groups and clubs £10.00 per hour each for 3 or more people.

All the courses will include lunch and evening meal on the first day and lunch on the second day

There will be a maximum of six people on any course

Courses will run throughout the season

The house was designed by the architect Sir Guy Dawber,
possibly to the design of the original 1620s house and the gardens surrounding the Lodge are
beautifully manicured even boasting an original English Archery lawn.
