This course has been designed for people who have completed basic training with their dog and would like to experience a days picking up on a driven day under supervision in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere with no pressure on dog or handler.
First day – This will consist of a refresher session in basic obedience, steadiness, recall and sitting to whistle etc using cold game for retrieves. After lunch we will move onto steadiness retrieving amongst live game with a session in rabbit pen and around pheasant rides. A simulated drive and hunt up for planted game will then take place. The day will end with coffee and chat with the Head keeper on shoot etiquette and what is to be expected on day two.
Day two – After a quick briefing we will move off with the guns for a days picking up. The emphasis will be on keeping your dog steady during the drives with only retrieves taken which are suitable for a young dog. The instructors will be with you throughout the day offering assistance and advice. At the end of the day, we will return for a coffee and a discussion on the day’s events.
To get the most out of the course, your dog should have completed its basic training and be used to multiple gun fire. If you would like more information or would like to book a lesson before the course starts to make sure your dog has reached the required standard, please contact Nick Gregory on 07799 316037

Dogs can be taken in for training and be trained to owner’s requirements. After basic training has been completed, your dog will be exposed to game on a daily basis. Your dogs training will be completed by being worked and shot over on our driven and walked up days. At the end of the training programme, a full demonstration will be given on a shoot day (during season). We would also like you to spend a day with us learning the techniques and commands needed to handle your dog.
If your dog’s basic training has been completed out of season, we recommend that you bring your dog back to us to be shot over at the start of the season.
